A pet peeve

A pet peeve
Current mood:  annoyed

Who here has NOT heard about “You cook, you don’t clean.  You don’t cook, you clean” when it comes to kitchen chores?  Well, there is a certain party who apparently has not fully understood this fact and it’s really bugging me.  Yes, there is the cleaning up of the dinner dishes (i.e. the dish off of which the food was eaten), but that’s not where the cleaning stops.  There are the serving dishes, the cooking dishes, all applicable utensils, the stove and sink area, the table top.  This can all be accomplished in a fraction of the time and often with a fraction of the effort of the actual cooking process.  But, here we are and only the eating dishes are done and there are way too many prep and serving dishes completely ignored.

By the way, this gripe is not about Nate.  He’s always the cook and I try to clean as we go.  Plus, we usually clean and cook together anyway.  I am also not talking about a guest in our home.  That would be pretty crappy to say, “hey, come and eat our food.  Hope you liked it, b/c now you get to clean up!”  This is another adult who really should know better, but I can’t say anything b/c there will be feelings hurt and all cleaning may just stop  (I suppose then feeding could stop?).  It’s also not completely my place, as I am not here to raise anyone.  We have a few years at least before that becomes an issue!

Anyway, that’s my gripe.  Hopefully it can be dealt with in a calm and adult way before I feel the need to throttle someone.  🙂
