New Mattress
Current mood:
ecstatic
Nate and I made our first grown-up furniture purchase. Sure, we’ve bought appliances and tools and lawn care equipment, but this is the first big piece of nice furniture that has come to live in our house. AND IT ROCKS! Up until yesterday it was all futon mattress on the floor time. Before that was futon mattress on the futon, and before that was crappy old mattress from grandma’s house that was maybe 4 inches thick and provided no support unless you count those springs stabbing me in the ribs.
I haven’t had a good mattress since I moved out of mom’s house. It was all college dorm mattresses and used mattresses I bought from people I met at the photo lab and crummy mattresses that were already at grandma’s house and so moved with me when I moved. Nate was straight futon all the way, which was fine until the mattress flattened so that you could feel every bar in the frame. So, after 10 years of crappy sleep, I didn’t want to get up.
A little bit about our mattress. It’s one of those memory foam deals. 11 inches of pure sleeping bliss. We chose the Queen size for the extra length. We bought 1000 thread count sheets off of our registry (It was on clearance for half price!) and hope to get some new pillows soon. We have no frame yet, but it came with a box (no springs) and we bought the rug for Nate’s office that will sit under the mattress until we build the frame. The cats are in love. They can’t stop walking on it and laying on it. Before the mattress arrived they were fighting on the new carpet (leaving little claw indentions that luckily smooth out). Since the mattress, it’s been blissfully quiet. They were confused by it at first. It didn’t take long to figure things out.
Anyway, I’m SO FRIGGIN’ HAPPY!!! All I wanted to do yesterday was lay on it. I didn’t want to get up this morning. We even made the bed! This may be a life changing event folks. Claire and Nate will be well rested for the first time in at least a decade. Look out world, here we come! 🙂
