So I’m trying to be earth friendly in all that I do. I admit, I still buy some imported food and what not, but if I can, I buy local. I also turn out the lights when I leave the room, recycle everything I possibly can, use cloth bags for shopping and combine trips to conserve gas. I even bought a bike to go to and from the grocery store (though I haven’t actually made that trip yet. It’s kind of a scary road.) Among our attempts at earth friendliness has been a trial with fancy shampoos and conditioners from places like EarthFare. Over the last year, we have tried several different brands, all with disappointing results. My hair has never been so unmanageable, tangled, and greasy looking. I have given up my soft silken locks for rough Medusa dreads. It’s been tragic. I have always been a bit into my hair. Back in junior high, I had an incident at camp with some larger campers and a huge pair of scissors. I have only had bangs once since then and was reminded why I spent the rest of high school and college with a long, straight blunt-cut. I actually could sit on my hair at one point (not something I would recommend), but it’s always been very healthy. That is, until this year when I tried to be healthy in my hair products. So, I finally gave up and switched back to good, old-fashioned chemical laden shampoo; Garnier Fructis (which sounds like it should be healthy, I suppose. It sounds fruity, and fruits are good for you, right?) Anyway, today was my first good hair day in a while. We’re back to soft and silky and now Nathan wants to do a zombie make up trial which involves putting nasty, greasy gunk in my shiny, soft hair. Oh well. I can always wash it again. The things we do for love…
