So I haven’t watched the new Star Trek. I saw a bunch of trailers & it just looks like Dawson’s Creek in space. I didn’t like Dawson’s Creek or any of the other teen melodramas. I do love the campy original Star Trek, so it was disappointing hearing my sis-in-law’s friends talking about Spock’s puppy eyes “Spock isn’t supposed to have puppy eyes” *swoon*. Exactly! Spock isn’t supposed to have puppy eyes! Anyway, it could be great, and I may see it sometime if enough people over the age of 25 can tell me it’s a good movie without swooning over Spock’s puppy eyes.
But that’s not the reason I chose to write about Star Trek tonight. Nate bought a box of Corn Flakes and on every box is a picture of Spock & Kirk looking off into the distance with the Enterprise behind them. On the back of every box is the opportunity to purchase a real Starfleet Tee (actual design may vary). You can choose blue for science and medical or red for everybody else. Now, I’m not a serious Trekker (Trekkie, whatever), I’m more of a Star Wars kinda girl, but weren’t the red shirts generally the ones who found something on the alien planet & then got vaporized with an off-camera scream? All that was left was a tidy little pile of dust.
Anyway, with that in mind, I think I’ll choose the blue shirt.
