I was told Star Trek was actually really good

So I might go see it. A friend who is a huge fan of the original series said the kid who plays Kirk did a great job. I still say it looks like Dawson’s Creek in space based on the trailers, but perhaps I should give it a chance.

But that isn’t the point of my blog. Today I am bitching, but not really. The last few months have been incredible and insane all at once. I have shot more in the last few months than I normally do. This has put a real strain on my behind the scenes work, so I am incredibly grateful to Nathan for picking up so much of the editing and I LOVE my bookkeeper for taking care of all of that crap (if only I could get her to do all of it, but I’m afraid that’s not quite in the budget yet. Soon I won’t deal with billing or bills. That is my goal!) I have shot only a few weddings compared to the amount of portraits, non-wedding events, and headshots. This is a good thing post-work wise, but a bummer since I like weddings so much. We are nearing my big push for the late spring/early summer season, so we’ll see how I feel about the wedding to other shoots ratio after that!

So as you can see, I’m busy. I have a list of blogs that need writing that is insanely long. The only issue is, the photos are on my external drive system & I love to blog outside the office. My plan: write the blogs then go sit in the office & upload the shots. Pretty good plan, eh? Of course, when I’m busy, Nathan can’t also be busy. I need his help so I don’t go insane. But if Nathan isn’t busy, we’re only earning half what we could be, so Nathan being busy is a good thing. And boy has he been busy!! Part of the reason I am so miserably behind on my blogging is that between edits and all of that, I jumped over into the Racing Graphics seat and helped him type and quality check all of the graphics (we’re doing graphics for 3 series, one of them is now in HD so part of that time was a redesign to go from standard to HD). We have done the first race for each series and that’s the race that takes the longest (you have to cut out headshots which may or may not be on a good background or well lit, type everyone’s names & numbers and match the headshots with them, and general stuff that for the rest of the series is done other than a few new racers here and there). We have also done the 2nd race for one and the HD version of another (which if the race had been picked up in HD before the first race was done would have been a snap, but alas, twas not to be, so we had to redo everything. Of course, Nate took the opportunity to do a redesign since they were using last year’s graphics that were great but HD gives you so much more in terms of details and he just couldn’t help himself). I feel like we’ve been doing graphics forever, but I think it’s just been 3 weeks straight. We have a bit of a breather here until the next race which will go into production in a week or so. But it’s been fun working together. We also learned that Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle) is now a race car driver. Pretty neat!

OK, so we have revealed some of the insanity (did I mention we went to the beach for a long weekend/huge wedding & Nathan spent maybe 5 minutes on the sand b/c he was doing race graphics in the condo the entire 5 days we were there? Well he did.) what next? Well, the last few weeks have had some frustrations since we really want to get our yard done. We have a HUGE pile of mulch that we got for free from the KUB tree trimmers sitting in our driveway probably driving the neighbors INSANE! We finally spent all day Sunday working on the yard & have made grand progress (which I should totally photograph but never think to do since I’m trying to squeeze as much gardening into every moment of daylight as possible and that leaves little time for photography until it’s too dark to shoot). I had such a fabulous time Sunday. I think my hair is blonder, I didn’t sunburn (well, I got a bit too much on the strip of my back where my shirt & pants don’t meet when I bend over to weed), and the yard looks 500x better!

I also hung a show at Earthfare yesterday (and again today). Yesterday was the most frustrating day in that all we wanted to do was relive Sunday and spend another day in the yard. But Nate’s car is acting up and we were told that there was a recall on his model year, so we called Mazda & they said come on. When we got there, they told us that there was a recall on the make, model & year and his VIN fell within the VINs included on the recall, but there was not a recall on his car. Of course, his car has the EXACT issue in the recall. We didn’t want to drive his car around, so we left it at Taste of Thai while we hung my show at Earthfare in Turkey Creek which took 3Xs longer than we expected. Nate totally stressed himself out which put him in a bad mood, so we forgot his car on the way home. We got home & tried to reconcile with the fact that not only did we not get the majority of what we wanted to do done, we still had to drive back to West Knox to get Nate’s car later. OY! We did get the car and had dinner with Adam and perked up by the end of the night, but we started today with yardwork so as to not screw it up this time. Of course, we missed the 5 p.m. deadline to drop his car off with the repair shop (we aren’t using the dealer), but we’re okay with that. OH! And I got a call this morning saying my work fell last night. So the ONE thing we accomplished yesterday we actually had to RE-accomplish today! SO ANNOYING!!

But it’s okay. My work wasn’t too damaged (at least they weren’t framed. Broken glass & photos don’t go well together. They were mounted to foam core & a nice frame will make them good as new) and they went back up much faster (with a much more sturdy hanging mechanism). I’ve gotten some great reactions. People don’t realize they’re photographs at first. They’re so cool! You’ll have to go see them. And buy them. And tell your friends to buy them.

Oh, we got our first raspberries! They are SO GOOD! We’ve lost a lot of strawberries to slugs & other bugs. 🙁 I thinned them and need to go in a pull any damaged berries out. I think I will go write some of the blogs on my list now then go to sleep so I can wake up bright & early and print the labels for my prints & garden a bit and then start on my INSANE Wednesdays (I always pack too much stuff on Wednesdays since it’s the only day I am guaranteed to leave the house).
