Surprise!

This year I photographed two very special birthdays. The first was a surprise 80th party at Miss Lilly’s Mercantile & Banquet Hall. It was a great party with lots of friends and family and tons of grandchildren and great grands too! The food was great, the little girls danced the day away, and they even had a fun slide show of old pictures. What a wonderful party!

Eli’s First Portrait

My friend Rebecca & I were having lunch recently, and delightfully she brought along Eli. He is such a good baby. We ate & talked, and all the while, he just slept peacefully. During lunch, it came out that Rebecca hadn’t had any portraits made beyond those she took with her camera. Well, we can’t have that! So off we went to West Hills park for an impromptu sitting. Eli was a bit groggy and definitely getting on the hungry side, but again, what a great baby! He was cute and sweet the entire time.

Movie making (a bit more detail)

So I realized that I just smacked you upside the head with the “we’re making a movie” thing with no real detail. Here’s the deal. There’s a brand new zombie film festival in Canada and the deadline is October 1st! We found out about it a few months ago, and spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what we would shoot. We have lots of short stories that would be great for the 20 minute time limit, but they just didn’t seem like enough. They were all mostly vignettes, no real character development or major plot stuff. So while on our road trip, we wrote a script. Then we realized that was too ambitious for our time frame. So we wrote another script. Then we got home and started running toward our goal of shooting the last week of August.

The details: 2 characters, 1 location, 10-15 minutes. We have our cast, working on acquiring costumes (anyone have size 15 1/2, 34-35 blue button down dress shirts they don’t mind getting gorey, that would be great! Also, camo pants and t-shirts or olive green) and props (still need a retractable prop knife). We’re doing shot breakdowns at the moment. Then we can create our schedule. Whew!! It’s pretty crazy. But I’m excited!

Back to the planning!

Making a movie

We’re getting ready to shoot a short film next week. We’re going a bit nuts trying to get it all done. I’m also catching up from 4 weeks out of town. I’ll try to fill you all in on the movie stuff when I can. I’ll also keep you updated as I finish editing and whatnot. Whew! It’s a crazy time to live at our house. Crazy but exciting! 🙂

Asante & Jerome

Oh how I love a calm wedding. Don’t get me wrong. I love the big, crazy, huge parties with lots of people and a large wedding party. Those are great! But it’s nice to have the smaller weddings in there to balance everything out. We had a great time with Asante & Jerome. Their wedding was at Dara’s Garden in the new stone ceremony site and the smaller house on the hill. It was perfect.

AJW_0016

They picked flowers and herbs and created the most amazing bouquets full of rosemary and mint.

AJW_0057

They had a blast getting ready! The laughter was contagious!

Basha’s mom referred me this wedding. Thanks, Adria! Go see her at Earth Fare. Then buy fabulous food and eat it. 🙂

Jerome’s younger siblings were so sweet.

They are Raw Vegans, so this was a different spread than most receptions I have shot. But the food was FANTASTIC!!

Laura & Jamie

I love Laura. She is the sweetest person! When I found out she was engaged, I was thrilled! She didn’t want anything huge or stressful. Just a low key barbecue/pool party. So she picked July 4th as her “Independence Day” and everything went without a hitch.

LJS_0122

Laura couldn’t help but peek to see who had arrive.

LJS_0139

Jamie was a peeker too.

Magpie’s made the most fantastic red velvet cake.

Laura was a great bride because she chose people she trusted and just let them do their thing. She didn’t even know what the cake was going to look like before it arrived (and as you can see, it was AMAZING!!)

Little Rock Friday

We changed up our schedule a bit and decided to spend a couple of extra days in Little Rock. I have two college friends there and my mom has a college friend who is my photodad (my original Nikon F3 was purchased used from him way back when I was in high school. My first REAL camera!) So instead of hopping back in the car Friday to head home, we got up early and had breakfast with Greg.

We met his adorable pups. Gretchen & Hoggie.

IMG_8887

They loved Nate!

Look at those faces!

After lunch we went with Anthony to look at a potential spot for his rowing club. It’s a really pretty unused marina. Hopefully it will work for them!

IMG_8962

This is where the marina moved. Anthony’s sailboat is off camera to the left.

And then I found the Smurf Village!
