My own personal fail blog

On the way home, I was in charge of holding a way too big stack of leftovers. We were rounding the turn less than a mile from our house, when suddenly the tower started to tip. I yelled a few choice phrases as I tried to shift the bottom to free a hand with which to grab the top. Alas, it was too late. What fell? Only a poorly sealed Sesame Chicken with one piece of chicken and a whole lotta thin but sticky sauce. Where did it fall? Why, all over Nathan and his dry clean only jacket (one of 2 dry clean only items he owns). So he had to drive one handed in a stick shift. Fun. Then we arrived at the house, and I ran in to get cleaning supplies while Nate assessed the damage. What did I find? That the cats had tipped a large trough of dirt and newly planted garlic. Where was this? On a table they have never been allowed on (in fact, they have been fussed at before for attempting to get on this same table). Well, now all over the kitchen floor. So Nate cleaned himself and his car while I cleaned the kitchen. We couldn’t let Alfred in before the dirt was cleaned up or we wouldl have a grander mess. We couldn’t clean the mess before the cats got fussed at or they would have no clue what the fussing was about. It was fun. And by fun I mean sucked. Now I must sleep.

Failblog

Some folks may have noticed my recent link to failblog in my blogroll. I just discovered failblog, and have spent way too much time over there. I have to say, the “fail” examples are amusing, but I really enjoy reading the comments as well. So, if you don’t have anything to do or need some cheering up, mosey on over to failblog.

The Story of Stuff

A friend of mine posted this on her facebook, and I thought it was great. I know, I need to get back to posting more original stuff. It’s the last week of Christmas picture orders, though, and I’m trying my best to not lose my mind. We also have a few more albums to get designed, so that’s exciting. I also did my first V.O. gig (other than the time in ’97 I voiced a few in-store radio commercials I wrote for Wal-Mart Hanes back-to-school underwear. Yeah. I’m that cool.) Perhaps I should rerecord those spots for your listening pleasure. They were pretty fun. I only heard half of one back when they were playing. The Wal-Mart in Cookeville turned off their radio (which is against company policy. Especially when someone goes there specifically to hear their commercial. Stinkin’ Wal-Mart. Oh if only that were their only fault…) and the Wal-Mart in Winston-Salem (where I was living and working for RJReynold’s ad agency–they did allow smoking in the building, ew–who also did Hanes and some guns, but mostly cigarettes) made an announcement in the middle of it. Sigh. That trip was also the one where my mom turned suddenly and wacked the corner of my glasses in just the right way so that the ear piece broke and stood straight out from my head. Luckily the insurance on them didn’t run out until the next month, so I got a new pair of glasses out of the deal for free! But I had to start college semi-blind. Oh well again.

Anyway, back on track, where was I… Oh, my new commercial for BST Concierge will be playing on WATE here in Knoxville next week. So listen for it. It’s a cute little spot.  I’m pretty proud of myself.

Now that we’re just rambling, what else did I do today?  Well, I went to my REO meeting.  I love my networking group.  They’re so fun.  Here’s my referral request, in case any of you good folks want to send me some business but aren’t clear on what I’m looking for:

Claire Presnall with Rebecca Claire Photography is looking for weddings and school portrait opportunities as well as voice over work. She does photojournalistic “ninja-stealth” style wedding and event coverage and school portraits that really capture who your kids are, not just what they look like. Her voice over talents include 3 different British accents, a “Fran Drescher” impersonation/voice, a valley girl accent, 3 different southern accents, as well as “normal woman” voices and many more.

Some of you may be wondering, “what is a REO?”  Well, REO stands for Referral Exchange Organization.  Raeus Cannon started it and it’s the best way to drum up new business.  I’ve put a link to the website up there (it’s the underlined stuff, Granny–that’s my grandmother’s “grandmother” name, in case she happens upon this blog–I did send her the address.  No I’m not trying to insult you by calling you a “granny.”)

Well, I think I’ll get back to work on my right glove (left on is DONE!!)  Was this interesting enough to keep you kids coming back for more?  I’ll try to do better next time.  And for those of you fussing because I’m not working on all of those Christmas orders I was talking about, the lab doesn’t start anything after 6, so I’ve uploaded what I can today and will get back on it tomorrow.  Don’t be such workaholics.  A girl can have a little fun, right?  Ooh, I did finish the edit on the shoot I did for Above the Rest last week.  They do amazing things with balloons.  I’ll post some pics soon.  I just hate to post here before the client gets to see them.  It seems they should get to see everything first.  They did pay for it.

School lunch

http://www.chow.com/stories/11358

This is fascinating.  I always knew those maxipad pizzas were bad.  That’s why I had cookies every day.  😉  I think it’s awesome that people are finally taking the time to feed our kids healthy food.  I wish we had this kind of school food when I was in school.  I might have eaten lunch in the cafeteria.

SNOW!

It really came down today.  But then it melted.  :*(  It was fun while it lasted.  Maybe it will snow a lot tonight!  I love snow.  Of course, tomorrow is my first voice over gig.  I’m doing a 15 second t.v. ad for a friend of mine.  Should be fun.

Pre-blogging

Is pre-blogging cheating?  I mean, I have to admit, I wrote that blog about margaritas on the 25th.  Like I’m going to get a chance to blog on Thanksgiving.  We’re cramming 30+ family members into my grandmother’s tiny little 2 bed room apartment.  Hell, I’m pre-blogging this blog.  But I have some days that are prolific blog days, and I hate for a really good post (or one I really like.  Who knows if you folks are enjoying it.  No one loves me enough to take my poll.  Sigh), to get buried.  So I set the publish date to a day I don’t think I’ll get a chance to blog.  I like to spread the wealth around.  Does that mean I have a socialist blog?  Anyway, let me know if you think I’m cheating.  Not like I’m going to quit, though.

Blog Type

Over at Kate’s Blog I found a link to a site that gives your blog a Myers-Briggs personality test.

ESFP – The Performers

The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don´t like to plan ahead – they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.

The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation – qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.

I can’t seem to include the code to show the Brain Analyzer picture, though. Oh well. We can’t always be perfect. I’m not certain this is entirely true (the analysis. Well, and the can’t always be perfect. Just ask Nate… Oh the other hand, don’t ask Nate. He might laugh)

Alfred’s Haircut

We’ve been meaning to get Alfred groomed for months. His wire-hair terrier and schnauzer have combined to grow some impressive dreds. Well, Nate decided to tackle those today which led to a full trim (we’re still in process). Alfred is so patient.

Sara also got in on the action. Especially when Nate decided to unsheath the tail which was completely encased in one huge mat. It’s a family activity. I’ll have some pictures when my phone/wordpress app decide to cooperate. Gotta love the ‘e’ network!

Stop the insanity

Remember that lady? What ever happened to her? I’m just trying to keep up with the insanity. How do I stop it? Nate has the sniffles now. He’s all congested and sad. He rarely gets sick, but it does happen on occassion. Like when he’s triple booked for edit work, plus has a graphics job, plus 3 things for me, something else for a friend, his cat almost dies, I’m my own special kind of nutty (tis the season), our house is falling back into a wreck due to neglect. But at least India is home and well.
