Megan & Josh’s wedding

Saturday was Megan & Josh’s wedding. It was a blast! My friend Claudine came up from Atlanta to second shoot with me. I already knew most of Megan’s family from Ashleigh & Tim’s wedding since Ashleigh & Megan are cousins and grew up like sisters. Their family is wonderful! So sweet and welcoming. Everyone remembered me from Ashleigh’s wedding, and it was like getting back together with old friends. This was my first time meeting Josh’s family, and they were great too! All-in-all it was just a fantastic group of people. Megan and Ashleigh did quite a bit of wedding planning together, and while they were at the same church and reception site, their weddings were completely different and just perfect for each individual personality.

We started the day off with a “first look” at the church. Megan was so excited to see Josh, and Josh just lit up when she walked down the aisle toward him. It was so cute!! After a few practices up and down the stairs and lots of giggly kisses, we piled everyone into a shuttle and headed to Megan’s parents’ house for wedding party pictures. Their house is fantastic with the lake just behind it and a huge rock and wonderful little side garden with flowers still in bloom. Bob and Margaret were so sweet and just told us to go wherever we wanted. This was such a fun group! Even the groomsmen got into the fun (and sometimes the groomsmen are pretty camera shy. Not these guys!) The bridesmaids were beautiful and each one had a different bouquet.

We finished up pictures at the church and then it was time to play the waiting game while guests were seated. Megan was so excited to get down there and marry Josh! It was great. These guys are such a wonderful couple. But before I get sidetracked, I just wanted to say, the flowers were AMAZING!! The altar is up a pretty tall set of stairs and there there’s a tall organ in the back that reaches up to an incredibly beautiful stained glass window. Megan wanted to capitalize on all of the vertical lines, so her flowers were 6-10 feet tall on pedestals of bamboo.

After the ceremony we had only 2 shots, a huge family group with both extended families and a pictures with Megan’s 93 year-old grandfather who is incredibly dapper with his suit and cane. He was quite the hit all night! The reception was wonderful. Megan had a different arrangement on every table and the food was fantastic! The Coveralls played and kept the dance floor hopping. Their goal was a fun, relaxed party where everyone had a great time, and I’d say it was a grand success!!

So, here are a few of my favorite images. I’m working to get everything on line asap! It was just a fantastic weekend for a wedding!

Tyler update

So I was just looking around on my computer and came across a few photos of Tyler that Nathan has played around with. It’s always fun to see what he’s going to do with my photos, so I thought I’d share. I’m off to shoot Megan and Josh’s rehearsal dinner and wedding this weekend, so expect updates on that next week. October is flying by!

Butterfly Gap Photos

OK, so I promised photos and here they are! I cannot say enough good things about Butterfly Gap. It’s beautiful, peaceful, not ridiculously expensive, secluded, and the breakfast rocked my world! And without further ado, I think the pictures will tell it better than I can…

I know. It’s pretty food heavy. Just remember, this was our anniversary, so Nathan didn’t let me get too close to my camera. He was afraid I might go into work mode. I’d love to go back and photograph the cabins without all of our junk everywhere (we pretty quickly took over the place with our stuff).

Juliette Atelier

So my friend Julie owns this awesome dress shot, Juliette Atelier (near 140 and Kingston Pike).  She has these absolutely gorgeous couture dresses.  Before our trip to Chicago, we got to photograph a few dresses downtown.  Of course, we’ve been crazy busy since then and haven’t had a chance to prep all of the pictures.  We have gone through them, and I thought I’d post this one that I absolutely love!  This is one of the dresses Trisha wore at our friend Kim’s awesome condo.  When we get more ready, I can show you what an awesome job Danna did with the hair and makeup and how gorgeous the dresses and my lovely models are!

The ceremony was at Chestnut Ridge Christian Church.

If this looks like a lot of family groups, that is because both sets of parents are remarried, but everyone gets along great!  The two right hand pictures are all of the immediate families and all of the parents with the smaller groups along the bottom.  I have had several couples whose parents are divorced and remarried, and most everyone gets along well enough for the wedding at least.  It’s important that parents remember that while they may not love each other anymore, they definitely love their children, so be nice.  These parents should give seminars.

20-21

The reception was at Susan’s mom’s house.  They had a wonderful back yard!  On The Border catered, and it was a very laid back, fun reception.

Chrisse & Matt

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Chrisse & Matt!  This was a beautiful wedding in Augusta, GA.  Nathan & I drove down the night before (as we always do for an out of town wedding more than two hours away) and stayed at the La Quinta (which we learned from their displays means everything from “free breakfast” to “comfy beds” and more.  It’s quite a diverse word.)  The wedding was gorgeous.  I had seen the church, Church of the Most Holy Trinity, and reception site, Savannah Rapids Pavillion, when I went to Augusta for Chrisse’s bridal portrait earlier that summer.  The florist, Janie at Foxglove was fantastic and the food from Roux Catering was not only delightful to photography, it was also delicious to eat.  Chrisse wore a Casablanca dress and the guy’s suits were from Men’s Wearhouse.  Their album turned out fantastic as well.  We had lots to work with.  Thanks, guys!  Have a great anniversary!

My new favorite show

Dexter. It’s a show about a serial killer. It’s awesome. The story is compelling, the acting and character development is fantastic! I don’t want to give anything away, but wow! We just finished season 2 on disk and I’m going through withdrawl. We got rid of our TV (and didn’t have Showtime anyway), so now it’s a waiting game. I have to say, whoever did the casting is a genius! The guy who plays Dexter, Michael C. Hall, was also the little brother on Six Feet Under (another great show). It was odd to me to see him kissing women (he was gay in Six Feet Under), but it’s funny, because both characters were awkward and unsure in interactions with the people they were interested in, and he really sold it. As his characters become more comfortable with themselves, they appear more confident in their actions and the way they carry themselves. I’m afraid Cary Elwes has some stiff competition on my favorite actor ranking.

One thing that’s really fun is watching Dexter’s face. He has that over-malleable face like Agent Smith from The Matrix. Just an arch of the eyebrow makes everything shift. He’s smiles are friendly and creepy at the same time (his cheeks kind of fold accordion style). And those eyebrows! It’s perfect for a serial killer leading a double life. Plus, he’s so likable! You watch him kill someone and then watch him hang out with his girlfriend, and you really want things to work out for him. Season 2 has some awesome character development as Dexter learns more about himself. I think he was more likable (a bit like a lost puppy or little kid) in Season 1, but he starts to take more responsibility for what he is and really do some soul searching. In that search, he does some things that had me yelling “No, Dexter! Don’t do that! You big jerk!” Season 2 is much more stressful (to me, at least) as Dexter does things that left Nathan and me saying “well, I certainly wouldn’t have done it that way” (of course, the big one there is the actual killing people part) like when Dexter isn’t nearly so cautious as we think a serial killer trying to avoid the law should be (like touching things without gloves. Seriously! Is that just a continuity issue, or can you not leave fingerprints on sheets of plastic and garbage bags.)

OOH! I JUST REALIZED! SPOILER ALERT IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH. IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED SEASON 1, JUST SKIP IT!

I’ve also enjoyed watching his sister, Deb. She started out as the kid sister, very unsure of herself. Watching her deal this season with what happened in Season 1 was fantastic! I really liked Dexter and Deb’s relationship in Season 2. It’s much more brother-sister bonding. Having a brother myself, I could really relate (well, sort of. My brother is an accountant, not a serial killer… that I know of…) 😉

WHEW! THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE! IT’S SAFE TO READ AGAIN…

So we got rid of our TV this summer and sometimes I think we watch more programing than we did before. But we’ve been very picky on what we watch (I think it’s just Lost, The Office, and Dexter). We also power watch things, which can be dangerous. I have to say, though, I was really excited to see the next season of Lost, but compared to Dexter, it’s just not so exciting. We also, finally, go season 4 of The Office. It’s great and funny, and I’m enjoying refamiliarizing myself with the characters. But it’s no Dexter. I can’t wait to see what happens in Season 3 (but please don’t tell me! I want to be surprised.)

First Friday

Last night was my show at V.I.C. for First Friday.  Thanks to everyone who came out!  It was a great turn out.  Especially considering we were competing with Wine on the Water.  Brent (of Brent Thompson’s Wandering Circus, the subject of my show) managed to squeeze in a peek at the last minute.  He’s hoping to find some more wall space for me, so hopefully if you missed it last night, I’ll have the shots up elsewhere soon.  I’ll keep you posted!  Thanks to Lindsay Parrot from V.I.C. for giving me the space to share my art.  Oh, and the food was great too!  All in all, it was a good day.  🙂

Karrie & Bryan

Karrie & Bryan got married the weekend after Nathan & I did.  It was a super small wedding full of friends, so Nathan didn’t fuss too much that I headed off to take a few pictures so soon after our honeymoon.  The ceremony and reception were at Lakeside Resort in Smithville, TN.  What a pretty location.  It’s their second anniversary today.  Have a good one, guys!!
