Dan & Tammy

I am so excited to share this wedding with you guys! Dan & Tammy are actually jr. high school sweethearts. They dated when she was in 6th grade and he was in 8th grade, spending the summer hanging out at the pool. After a year together (which in jr. high time is FORVER!), she broke up with him. Dan is very clear on that. 😉 They went on their own ways and a few years ago reconnected. Tammy spent so much time practicing writing Mrs. Tammy Schaefer back in 6th grade that it came easily when she had to sign the marriage certificate.

We really had a fabulous time photographing this intimate wedding. There were eight of us at the reception dinner (that’s including Nathan and me), and we spent a week hanging out on the beach with the family. I hope they let us tag along again next time.

This was our wedding in Aruba where we missed our return flight (oh darn) and had to stay an extra day. That little travel hiccup just reminded me why we NEVER travel on days we are shooting. NEVER EVER EVER! You just don’t know what’s going to happen. Luckily, our hiccup landed us back on beautiful beaches and fabulous snorkling for one more day. Now I’m working on booking our next Aruba wedding so we can go back. 🙂

Carol Littlejohn

I’ve been doing a lot of headshots over the last year and they’re all delightfully different. Carol is an author & librarian who helps find books that are great for kids. You can find out more about her work at her website http://www.carollittlejohn.com/

Because of her work with books, we chose the Farragut Library for the portrait sitting. Carol told me ahead of time that she gets nervous in front of the camera, but I’m not seeing it. We had great fun and I think the pictures really show it.

Engagement Story Winner

Happy Valentine’s Day! We had some wonderful stories, but alas, there can be only one winner. And our winner is our final contestant, Ben & Amy for their Surprising, Memorable, Beautiful story. Congrats guys! I can’t wait for our sitting.

I really loved all of the stories, so my runners up get a consolation prize of 10% off any booking. Now everyone is a winner! 🙂 I will post the pictures from our winner’s shoot just as soon as we make them.

Of course, Valentine’s Day, being a big engagement day, makes me want to hear all of the new stories, so take your time, you newly engaged folks, craft your stories, and come back in March for Engagement Contest 2010 take 2!

I miss you!

Oh, hello. I guess I didn’t expect to see you. I have been gone for so very long. But really, it’s not you; for I have missed you terribly. It’s this crazy life I lead. I had hoped that once the Christmas rush was over I would have more time to devote to you, but alas, I have been pulled away by my true love, my camera. Now don’t let this diminish our friendship. Certainly if it were not for my camera, how else could I make the pictures I share with you. And as such, here is a little something I was working on last night.

It’s a real ruby slipper I photographed for my friend Gail at White Fox Bead Studio in Maryville. They were created by hand out of gobs of Swarovski painstakingly attached one by one.

Oh look! There’s a pair of them. How convenient. I had fun with these two, but I really want to shoot them on green. Grassy green. Preferably of the actual grass variety. But until the mudpit of my yard dries up and the grass greens up for spring, this white will suffice. Of course, my yard is only marginally green at best. Perhaps my neighbor will let me use his perfectly manicured quarter acre.

There is so much more to share with you. Weddings from last year, places we’ve traveled, the snow and other fun things I shot just for fun. And don’t forget the parties and portraits. I promise to be better. I have nearly caught up with some of the businessy bits, so that time can be redevoted to you so my piggy camera won’t hog all the fun time!

Really?

So it’s been a day!

Initially it was looking to be a pretty easy but fun day. I had a meeting scheduled with a bride and then bookkeeping to finish. No big deal. I might even have time to catch up on my photoediting and get a bit of blogging done (and there are lots of shoots that need to be blogged).

I should have been suspicious last night when Nathan’s computer started acting funky for no reason. It’s about 3 years old, but it’s generally well behaved so long as no one else uses it besides Nate and I have been very good and hands off. So that put a wrench in the plans last night and was the reason we got up extra early so he could get into the office and get started on some work. After I dropped him off and picked up the cat food I’ve been meaning to pick up since last Friday, I headed home to get a bit of work in before my meeting.

I sat down in front of my computer, hit the space bar and…NOTHING! I clicked it a few more times then the clicky thing on the track pad and still nothing. Perhaps I had turned it off and had forgotten. Nope. So maybe it froze up. I held down the power button and heard the “bewwwwww” of the hard power off, waited a bit then hit the on botton. There wasn’t a lot of noise and still no picture. Maybe I did that wrong too. Hit it again and got the “bew,” and now I’m confused.

On the next power up I get the “bahng” noise that means we’re in business. HURRAH! nevermind. The little light on the front is on when I close it. The keyboard lights up. The drive makes working noises. No picture. Maybe it’s the screen. So up the stairs we go to plug into my external monitor. No go. We restart. Now the keyboard is all lit up and is staying that way. I give up.

Back down the stairs with a copy of my Apple Care (after a bit of confusion at the expiration date but that was Nate’s Apple Care which is a year older) to pack up and let the dog in (who had been dancing by the door like he HAD TO GO! when I got home) only to discover the compost bucket lid open and carrot puree all in Alfred’s beard (and we had been blaming raccoons for getting into the bucket)! So now it’s time to be mad and wash his face and he doesn’t deal well with being in trouble so he’s shaking and acting like I’m going to skin him (which I might. Ok, I wouldn’t really, but boy was I peeved). He spends the rest of the time trying to make friends again and whacking me with his chewy rope.

We’re running out of time. I have to leave soon for my meeting, but Earth Fare just sent me a coupon for free blueberries & and I’m going past Earth Fare so I really want that coupon. Back up stairs to fish out my old Dell Inspiron 1100 (best $1000 I ever spent) from 2003 that was on sale for being not the newest technology even then but that has been very reliable except for that time I got a nasty virus doing Power Rangers research for a job Nathan was working on back in 2004 or early 05. I had to go plug into the router (no wireless since I misplaced the wireless card) to download the coupon then go around and use Nate’s printer (which was luckily installed on the Dell computer) through USB rather than over the network because Nathan’s computer is angry from last night. Of course, Nathan’s printer thinks that black ink is optional so there’s a good chance I’m going to get a blank sheet of paper. But I got it! And I got some free blueberries.

While en route, I called Robin (BFF) to vent and learned she had the same problem with her computer and it’s a secret recall with the video card. So that should be fun. But at least it sounds like the hard drive should be fine since I have to finish my bookkeeping so I can pay my 4th quarter sales tax by the 20th. WHEEEE!! Of course, I can’t do anything until I get my computer repaired OR Nathan lets me install my XP immolator, XP and Quickbooks on his laptop OR perhaps I can run it on the Dell. That thing always works. If I ever indicate that I am considering getting rid of it, please, remind me that it’s the only computer that ALWAYS works!

So the day is shot, but I had a great meeting with some lovely people and called Apple (I can’t see anyone until tomorrow although I’m at the store using their computer-I will definitely log out of my blog so no worries) and learned (thanks to Twitter & Facebook) that I can recover my files by plugging my computer into another computer (which Nathan took to work with him for some reason today. The only working computer in the house, other than the Dell, and it’s not at home. Sigh) so it’s not as bad as it could be, but SERIOUSLY! I think I’m going to go home and knit or read. I’m not sure which, but I’ll definitely keep you posted!

p.s. For anyone worried that my computer dying puts your pictures in danger, don’t. I have your pictures safe & sound on external drives (just need a computer to plug into to see them) & optical backups. This just killed my plans for today to get some editing done. Tomorrow I steal Nate’s laptop. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Cafe Bossa Nova, Little Rock, Arkansas

When you think Little Rock, you definitely think Brazilian food. At least, I do. OK, maybe it isn’t the FIRST thing that comes to mind, but apparently it should be. Cafe Bossa Nova is AMAZING! Plus it’s within walking distance of my friend Anthony’s house, so we were able to walk off at least a bit of the amazing food we gorged ourselves on.

IMG_9077

It was way busier than this shot implies.

IMG_9055

These little cheesy biscuit things are filled with crack. I nearly brained both Anthony and Nathan to get their share. Luckily, I regained my senses in time. Sadly, that means I only got to eat two. Sigh. What makes them so amazing? Well, they’re light and fluffy and squish when you bite them then the cheesy taste hits and you’re in heaven.

IMG_9057

This was amazing! It was some sort of corn chowder (also filled with crack). This was the appetizer version. I, being the crazy person I am, ordered the full portion.

IMG_9066

This is the full portion. It doesn’t look that big, but it was HUGE! And very filling. But I powered through (at least in part do to its crack-like addictivity).

IMG_9058

Nathan got a shredded chicken curry-like dish with rice. It was also amazing! The sauce was thick and rich and creamy and good to the last drop. 😀

IMG_9062

Anthony got this seafood dish with rice. I don’t remember what it was, but it was tomato-y and delicious!

IMG_9069

I foolishly thought that the soup wouldn’t be enough (I knew it would be when I ordered it, but everyone gets so concerned when you just order soup and for some reason I listen then the food comes and I help Nathan eat his and eat my soup and am stuffed). But the fruit was also amazing and worth the over-stuffing of my tummy.

IMG_9072

This was the chocolate cake. It was fantastic! But I didn’t order it.

IMG_9074

I ordered this. This is THE BEST FRIGGIN’ BREAD PUDDING EVER CREATED IN THE HISTORY OF BREAD PUDDING! It had little chocolate bits all melted inside. They served it hot with caramel and chocolate sauce on top. I was stuffed, but somehow I found a small little corner of my tummy to cram this sucker into and it was completely worth it!

Gettysvue Country Club

I photographed Gettysvue at the end of the summer/early fall this year. It was a perfect day. I love Gettysvue. The food is great, the staff is great, the location is great. It’s a wonderful place to shoot a wedding or play golf if that’s how you roll, which I don’t. Really, I’m just so bad a PuttPutt that I figured golf would be an exercise in futility. Luckily I shoot weddings so I get to go to Gettysvue to do something I’m good at.

The Prince Deli

I shot the Prince Deli on Lovell Rd the other week and boy is it fantastic! Donna, the owner, seems to know every customer by name, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is fantastic. The Prince is a sports bar with a stage and some of your average sports bar menu items (created at a much higher standard of deliciousness). You can play pool, watch the game, catch a show (they have musicians, Salome Cabaret has made a few appearances, and more). But what better way to explain it all than show you!

PrinceDeli1109_0156

PrinceDeli1109_0148

I love these little blue booths!

PrinceDeli1109_0185

PrinceDeli1109_0111

It’s like a cozy nightclub back here. When they have performers, the giant TV rolls out to reveal the stage.

PrinceDeli1109_0060

They have a pretty swanky lighting system set up too.

PrinceDeli1109_0085

This is what the world looks like from the performers POV.

PrinceDeli1109_0116

PrinceDeli1109_0023

Yep! That’s a darts game. I’m horrible at darts, but I certainly enjoy throwing them.

PrinceDeli1109_0211

This is no pre-formed frozen patty! Look at that thing! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a prettier burger. And this isn’t the biggest, fanciest, most amazing burger they serve.

PrinceDeli1109_0220

Delicious gyros for those who prefer their meat thin slices and wrapped in a pita. Mmmmmm….

PrinceDeli1109_0199

What’s this? Fancy looking food with veggies at a sports bar?! I told you they did things a little differently. This is one of their amazing lunch specials. Donna lets the chef play, and he definitely plays nicely with others. I mean, pork in a mango sauce with squash and carrots on the side?! YUM!

PrinceDeli1109_0226

Donna’s mom bakes the brownies herself. But what are those blondie looking things on the right? Peanut butter brownies! Donna’s dad couldn’t eat chocolate, so his lovely wife invented brownies without chocolate just for him. What I really want to do is mix them. Chocolate-peanut butter brownies! Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard.

PrinceDeli1109_0227

The real key is mixing the amazing meals with tasty snacks so all the customers are happy and well fed. What are these golden beauties? I mean, they could be anything, all pretty and crisp, fresh from the deep frier. But their CORN NUGGETS! You heard me! Man, I love these things. Whoever invented them deserves a medal! And the Prince Deli has AMAZING corn nuggets! I can’t wait to head back and stuff myself.
