Tis the season

I’m a Christmas baby. Every year I shared my birthday cake with Jesus. Read more about that on last years birthday post. What this means is that every year, during one of my busiest times (thank you everyone who is ordering Christmas prints & holiday cards. Your business is much appreciated), my family starts asking what I want for Christmas & my birthday. I’m not the best at coming up with a list on the spot, so after years of forgetting what I wanted under pressure (see A Christmas Story) only to remember around January 3rd with a year until the next time I could expect any gift receiving opportunities, I started making a wishlist on Amazon (since I always lost my paper notes). It’s worked quite well, I must say. So in the spirit of birthdays (mine & Jesus’s), here is my Christmas list (and Nathan’s) in case you lost my email (plus, I can include pictures 🙂 )

And if you think this is tacky, that’s okay, you don’t have to read on & you certainly don’t owe me any gifts (you can still come celebrate my birthday on the 19th-not my actual birthday, just the nearest Saturday-with margaritas & bowling). But seriously, my family needs all the help (with pictures & direct links) they can get. They all loath shopping (yet seem to do a pretty good job at holiday time now that we have a system). 🙂 Oh, and if you have any experience/reviews of the items below, please share. I’ll knock them off the list if they are crummy.

First, we’ll start with a link to my amazon wish list.

Nate’s #1 desire is:

or something similar.

My #1 desire is:

but it’s currently unavailable, so I will accept any other full size, weighted key keyboard/piano, preferably with MIDI options. It doesn’t have to be super fancy. It just has to play (and be full size. None of those mini keyed truncated keyboards here). Ever since we sold our piano (back in ’96) I have wanted to get a new one. Alas, that hasn’t happened, so I’m putting in this request. If I get nothing else for both Christmas & birthday and you all join in together to get me this, I’ll be ecstatic. You can find a dealer through their website. We finally have a spot for it (well I’m making a spot b/c I just can’t stand not having a piano anymore).

My #2 desire is really just a toy to replace the one I broke.

Ever since my elph met a tragic end, I have been limping along with my phone camera for all personal events (unless I did drag out the big camera, but then I had to keep an eye on it to keep it from getting knocked over or spilled on or something so I haven’t been bringing it around so much). It’s a decent phone camera, I guess, but I really want a toy camera that fits in a bag and is easy to tote. This one seems pretty sturdy (although the G10 sounds a bit sturdier. Of course, I hear the lowlight is better on the G11 so that’s a trade off) and I got to play with one this fall. You can put a flash on it. A REAL FLASH on a REAL HOTSHOE and there are loads of manual settings. I totally want one, just not as much as the piano b/c I technically have gobs of cameras.

The rest of the items are mostly books and mostly Nathan’s picks. I realized there aren’t many “small” items on there for me, just some big honkin’ ones. So if you’re looking for something smaller, here are a few other ideas:

I need some slippers (size 7.5, warm and cozy for wearing around the house). These look cozy.

Nate does not think these are sexy, but I think the real issue is that women’s slippers just aren’t sexy.

Pajama pants (just the pants part) that are not big, bubblegum pink fluffy monstrosities that are as comfy as they are ugly. I just need regular pj pants like these:

I’d love some boots (flat or heeled with rounded toe. I love laces or other adjustment items)
Here are a few ideas:

Actually, the ones at the very bottom are my favorite, so you can just ignore the rest!

My favorite brands are Earth & Merrell, I have a stupidly high arch and an inability to walk in skinny heels, so wedge or chunky heels or flats are the way to go.

Do you want to get gifts for your grandpuppy & grandkitties (or puppy/kitty nephews)
Alfred needs a new sweater/jacket his measurements are: 18″ shoulder to base of his tail, 22″ around the widest part of his chest.

Both Alfred & the cats have lost or destroyed most of their toys (Alfred finally chewed the ears off his heffalump. I’ll post pictures when I find the poor thing again). Alfred loves plushies with squeakies or without, the cats love things with catnip & lasers, although Alfred usually steals all of their toys.

They also love pillows to lay on & Alfred destroyed the last one with too much vomit.

And one more thing for Nate:
aeron chair Size B with adjustable arms (I’d like the same in a size A. They’re expensive but amazing! Hour 10 is just as comfy as hour 1).

We really don’t need a whole lot. Our house is tiny and already overstuffed. Some lumber to build Nate’s office. Now it’s your turn. What do you want for Christmas (pictures and links are welcome). 🙂

Zombie Reagan Raised From Grave To Lead GOP

I had wanted to embed this, but I guess you’ll just have to go to the Onion site. That’s okay. There’s plenty of awesomeness over there to watch and enjoy. One of my favorite parts, beyond the whole Reagan zombi thing, is the ticker at the bottom. I watched the video several times so I could watch & listen as well as read all of their lower thirds and that awesome ticker. I love the Onion!

Edmund & his people

The Sunday after Thanksgiving, I headed home to photograph Edmund’s family for their holiday card. Edmund is 12 and absolutely hilarious! He was very patient with us and our plans. We had a great time! I can’t wait to see which cards they pick!

It’s a long walk down Gay St. when you’re a pug.

We started by the big tree on Gay St. Eddie loves to be picked up and hugged and carried.

He is not quite so enamored of sweaters and funny hats, but it was cold enough outside that he didn’t seem too put out. Plus he just looks so darn cute!

Eddie got lots of comments. Children were quite enamored of the “elf-dog” and he patiently let them pet him. What a nice celebrity. Not snooty at all!

You have to get the shot with the Tennessee Theater in the background.

Market Square also has a big tree on the stage, and look at what a big city Knoxville appears to be! It’s all in the angle. 🙂

Then we sort of morphed into an Edmund-centric shoot.

But he has enough personality to warrant his own shoot.

Here he is caroling for all the passers-by.

You may recognize this shot from my holiday card sample.

And then he was done.

Thanks Holly, Bruce & Edmund! What a fun way to get back into the swing of things after all that turkey and casserole and pecan pie. 🙂

Holiday Cards

Trying to figure out how you’re going to do all of those Christmas cards without your hands falling off? Looking for Hanukkah cards and just not finding anything with the pizzaz you want? Need to send Kwanzaa cards to your nearest and dearest? Or hoping for something a bit more non-denominational to include your favorite people of multiple faiths? Well isn’t it your lucky day! We have all of those and they are completely customizable (because that’s how we roll).

You can choose one of our designs or have us design one for you. We also have the postcard style cards AND folded press cards. I need those orders by the end of the week in order to get them to you in time.

What? You don’t have any good pictures of the family? Well, I am still scheduling sittings. And did you hear about that portrait sitting special? It’s still good until the end of the week (that includes this weekend). So give me a call 865-805-6756 or an email info@pellucidphotography.com and clear one more thing off your crazy holiday schedule.

Check out all of our swanky designs.

All you need to do is head over to http://pellucidcreations.com and pick your favorite pictures to fill in all of those white squares.

Same kind of idea, just fill in those black squares. And how exciting! We can do horizontal or vertical of every design.

Don’t forget, I need those orders by the end of the week in order to get you your cards by the end of next week. If picking your own picture is too overwhelming, just give me a call or an email describing what you need, and I’ll get right on it. We accept checks and credit cards, but all payments must be completed before I can place the order.

Now go spread some holiday cheer!

Taziki’s, Little Rock, AR

I love Greek food! I love the salads and the gyros and especially the baklava. Sadly, we didn’t eat any baklava at this meal. But we did eat lots of other food!

IMG_9042

I liked the columns on their logo.

IMG_9041

It’s a really cute little place. We were there at sort of an odd meal time, so it was nice and quiet. Oh, and they have a small sofa in the super small bathroom that really cracked me up. It’s just a one-holer. Who’s sitting on the sofa while you use the potty? Those crazy Arkansians. 😉

IMG_9040

Mmmm… chicken soup & greek salad!

IMG_9037

And delicious chicken gyro.

IMG_9044

Oh look! It’s me! Anthony was having a good time with my fisheye lens.

Zaza’s take 2

Like I said, we really liked Zaza. Our first trip we had salad & pizza but no gelatto. This time we went all pizza plus gelatto and ended up stuffed once again.

IMG_9078

This is where you tell them what to put on your salad. They have suggested salads or you can build your own. It’s great!

IMG_9080

These looked amazing! We didn’t try them though. 🙁

IMG_9081

These guys are making our pizzas.

IMG_9084

They put the gelatto by the door. Very sneaky! I kept wandering over and drooling on the glass.

IMG_9090

4 seasons pizza. Each quarter is different (and delicious)!

IMG_9092

Pepperoni pizza. Also delicious!

IMG_9095

IMG_9109

Nate loves it when I put pictures of him with a mouthful of food online.

IMG_9111

They mixed two flavors of gelatto. I wanted all 8, but Nathan said no. 🙁 Of course, he was probably right in terms of avoiding a tummy ache. I was super full by the time we left. Why does he have to be so sensible!

IMG_9114

This one was ours. It’s limoncello & plum. YUM!!

IMG_9117

Anthony couldn’t eat his fast enough & some of it melted on the table. What a mess! Don’t worry. He cleaned it up. He’s such a polite young man. 🙂

Hacienda, Little Rock, AR

We spent several days in Little Rock at the end of our road trip in July, so we got to try all kinds of restaurants. Of course, when you think of Little Rock, you definitely think of Mexican food, so off we went to Hacienda.

IMG_9033

IMG_9008

The salsa was good. That green stuff was SPICY!!

IMG_9014

I love cheese dip! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

IMG_9026

Anthony had some sort of shrimp thing.

IMG_9031

I had a sampler. It was pretty good. Some parts were better than others.

IMG_9030

Nathan had the BEST FRIGGIN’ CHIMICHANGA EVAR! They put the fajita chicken in it and it was amazing! I kept trying to sneak bites off of his plate. I think my food would have been better if I didn’t have his to compare it to. So lesson learned. Always get the chicken chimichanga at Hacienda.

Zaza’s; Little Rock, AR

This was our favorite restaurant in Little Rock. So favorite that we ate at it twice! They have pizza and salads and amazing gelatto! We had some of everything.

IMG_8816

This was some sort of fancy salad. I don’t quite remember which one, but it was AWESOME!

IMG_8824

Anthony got the steak salad. They cook the steak fresh so it’s hot & delish!

IMG_8828

One of their many amazing pizzas. Nate & I split a pizza & a salad and really had way too much food. But it was amazing! This pizza had a thin, crisp crust and look at those big chunks of stuff. I think Anthony helped us a bit with the pizza, but his salad was so amazing, he didn’t have that much room.

IMG_8830

Look! It’s Anthony! I’m sure he’s excited to be immortalized on my blog. He’s an engineer in Little Rock and knows all the best places to eat. He’s lived there most of his life, so he knows the secret eateries of the locals.

Ozark Country Kitchen; Little Rock, AR

Greg, my photodad, took us out to eat breakfast one day whilst in Little Rock. I have to say, they eat GREAT! in Arkansas! I got the blueberry pancakes, and while they weren’t quite as good as Shorty Lu’s, they were amazing. I love blueberries, and I love pancakes, and here were blueberry pancakes that tasted fantastic! So often you get pancakes that just don’t do either justice, or aren’t finished cooking around the blueberries. Not these. They were great. And huge!

IMG_8858

Nate, once again, got a breakfast sampler of eggs, meat, and potatoes. Yum, yum & yum!

IMG_8862

I guess what I’m trying to say is Ozark Country Kitchen makes a mean breakfast.

More fall portraits

While we were in DC doing some family portraits at the National Zoo, we also took advantage of the amazing park right down the street. Kiera & Zane were so cute! We got to play and feed the ducks and have an all around great time.
