I know better

Rupert and I were sitting in Nate’s office while I tried to read. Rupert was curled up next to me with my arm around him. We were all good until I got bored of reading and couldn’t resist pouncing any longer. So there I went, totally screwing up the harmony. Rupert is picky in his snuggles and must have them on his own terms. They do not include pouncing or hugging or face nuzzling. But Rupert is the cutest, fluffiest kitty, and I have no self control. I leaned over and wrapped my arms around him and nuzzled my face in his fur. The only thing that kept him from bolting immediately was my sneaky ear scratching technique. I really am practiced at this and a good ear scratch is worth the torment to Rupert. It doesn’t last, though. He starts to shift to escape as soon as the scratching slows or I’m not getting it just right. If I can correct in time, I often gain another five minutes, but if I’m too slow, I find myself alone, covered in cat hair, and reminding myself that I know better.

Seriously!  How am I supposed to resist that?

JALAPENO DIP

I found this in my email clearing.  Might I suggest trading the cream cheese for Kefir cheese and that Mayo for some sour cream?

4 – 8oz pkg cream cheese, softened
1 – 2c pkg shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 – 12oz jar sliced jalapenos (chopped up more)*
Mayo (just enough to give proper dip consistency)

Combine above ingredients.  Serve with Fritos scoops.

*Add additional jalapeno juice depending on how hot you want it.
½ recipe to make a smaller quantity.

More boring work today

We’re over our limit on our website.  I deleted a few things from the ftp so that was easy, but then I delved deeper.  Why were we so over the limit?  Spam, of course!  I had 14,000 spam messages sitting in my junk box on my server.  Why?  My spam folder is supposed to delete any junk messages after a week.  Why were there messages from October (probably the last time I cleared the junk box)?  Being the recovering packrat I am, it’s possible that my subconscious has prevented my junk box from clearing.  Oh well.  I’m taking the opportunity to sort through all the other junk in there too.  Boy do I need to be pickier about which emails I keep and looser with the ax.

Make that 16353 spam messages!  EW!

What to do with a totally open weekend?

Well, we could travel.  We could hang out with friends.  We could go on a date.  We could catch up on work.  We could totally veg out.  There are so many things we could be doing this weekend.  Tomorrow is Super Bowl with Aly & fam, so “hang out with friends” is covered.  Last night we stayed up late and Nate played Ninja Gaiden while I worked on new photography contract wording.  Veg out and catch up on work, double check.  Travelling?  Not so check.  Because we spent today cleaning up around the house, going through our clothes to make bags of clothes we don’t wear anymore for friends and donations.  Now we are tackling the ridiculous stack of DVDs & CDs that are either unlabeled, mysteriously labeled, or just in the wrong spot.  It’s not that exciting, but these disks have been piling up in the corner of Nate’s office for about 6 months now.  We find them in boxes as we continue the third year of unpacking or under a pile of paperwork.  Of course, I’m a recovering pack rat, so every time Nathan asks if I think we should get rid of a disk, I get all antsy.  We don’t NEED all of these disks.  I don’t need a disk of 100 web-sized sample files from weddings 5 years ago when I have the raw files double backed up and safely stored away.  But what if something happened, and I NEEDED the disk!  Oh woe is me!  I will rue the day.  Of course, I have newer sample images and a completely different system.  I don’t need 3 copies of my old information packet samples.  I did enjoy watching some of the movies we made from our road trip to Denver in 2007.  That was fun.

Quick note!  I just remembered something!  You can recycle old DVDs & CDs with http://cdrecyclingcenter.org  I just signed up.  🙂

Max Payne

Just watched Max Payne. You know the one. It has Marky Mark & Meg Griffin. Mila whatever her name is starts the movie as a badass, kind of manish Russian with a hot, mostly naked sister. She speaks Russian and has a gang. Next time we see her, she’s a might irritated and her accent seems faded. After that she’s a dominatrix with Meg Griffen’s voice. It’s all downhill from there. She seems to have misplaced her posse (I assume she left it with her accent). She gets girlier including moving from all black leather to pastels and trading the Robert Palmer girl updo for softer, bouncy curls. She stays behind and shoots big guns. It’s like they were trying to cover all their fanboy bases since they already had loose woman covered in the sister character.

Anyway, not the best movie I’ve seen, but it was vastly superior to RepoMan the rock opera.

Proper tea etiquette

Is it cool to reuse tea bags? I like to get a really strong first cup and a second weaker cup. I’m sure the tea bag people would protest. I’m not from tea drinking people. My family is French (from about 250 years ago), so I think I’m supposed to drink cafe. I’m just doing it all wrong. 😉

If I can’t see it, does it exist?

Yesterday I was waiting at the light at the top of the ramp to exit off the highway. In the lane to my left was an ambulance with its lights and siren off. I turned left to go home, and the ambulance pulled into the intersection as if to turn right. Then I saw in my rearview a pair of headlights heading down the wrong side if the road toward several sets of oncoming break lights. My eyes said, “hey look! The ambulance is going down the wrong side of the road.” My brain protested. “there is no way the ambulance would do that. They are professional drivers. There is a huge median. They wouldn’t drive into oncoming traffic.” My brain and eyes duked it out and as the ambulance turned on their flashing lights and crossed the median they finally came to an understanding. The eyes were right, the ambulance driver was nuts, and now I had an angry ambulance on my tail. It took a minute for my brain to reengage and figure out the proper get-out-of-the-way procedure. I missed the first two chances and finally pulled into a motel parking lot. By the time I turned around and got back on the road, the ambulance was long gone. My brain started in again with the “that was impossible” stuff, and I had a realization.

How many things do I see but my brain kicks out due entirely to the improbable nature of the event or situation? Do I only “see” the expected? What can I do to more readily see the unexpected?

Club LeConte Bridal Show

lc0109_036This past Saturday, I participated in the Club LeConte Bridal Show.  Lindsay and Alex always put on a great show, and it’s full of my friends.  So we have a good time.  The best is at the end of the show when we all descend on the buffets.  YUM!  The crab cake burgers were my favorite this time, although the cheeseburger soup was delish too.  Anyway, if you want to see the images, just follow this link:

Daikon Radish

I bought a daikon radish the other day.  I was at the produce market at the corner of Sutherland & Hollywood when I happened upon it.  I have no idea what to do with a daikon radish, and Nathan seems highly suspect of it.  It’s just sitting in our veggie drawer waiting for me to make a decision.  I tried to look up some recipes, but they all have it as a garnish.  That’s a lot of garnish!  Any suggestions?
