Busy Week

I had a really busy week last week meeting fellow Knoxville vendors.  I will have a future blog with some pics and a little bit about all of the nice folks I met.  This one is actually about my weekend.  Yesterday (St. Patty’s), I went with a friend of mine, Jamie Weiss, to a small wedding that she was shooting.  She posted a few of the pics in her blog which you can view here: http://www.jamieweiss.net/

Anna and Dan were incredibly sweet, and Anna’s daughter Morgan was the cutest little flower girl/ring bearer/maid of honor you have ever seen (she’s 6).  It was great to go along and get a feel how Jamie works as well.  Whenever I’m previously booked, I like to be able to refer other photographers, but I don’t want to refer just anyone.  Jamie was fun to work with and her images are great.  She’s definitely on my list.

6 Weird Habits/Things About Me

Current mood:AVOIDING THE UNENDING ACCOUNTING WORK

These are the rules: The 1st player of this “game” starts with the topic “6 weird habits/things/about yourself” and people who get tagged need to write a blog about their 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says “you are tagged” in their myspace comments and tell them to read yours…:

6 Weird Habits/Things About Me…

1.)  I have recently begun yelling “aiy-yie-yie!!” when surprised or tickled.

2.)  I occassionally attach a “y” to the end of words along with a non-sense word that may or may not rhyme.

3.)  I am not happy unless everything has a home.  Things don’t have to be in their homes, but they must have one so that in the off chance I decide to clean, everything can be put away.

4.)   I speak to my sis-in-law in “meows”

5.)  I hate to throw things away, including downloaded and backed up files off of memory cards.  I cringe every time I hit the “format” button.

6.)  I have the ability to sing, yet I refuse to do so unless I am using a ridiculous or annoying voice.

People That I Tagged…

EVERYBODY!  MWAHAHAHAHA!  You can read the original (i.e. the place from whence I stole this) and 6 more weird things about me here:  http://www.myspace.com/dkoren

Failed bulletin

failed bulletin

So I tried to repost this as a bulletin (twice) and instead it just disappeared.  Luckily I learned the ol’ copy/paste trick.  It also pasted multiples of random questions in random places.  I think it may just be possessed

Something to do while I await the completion of my Photoshop action:

[1] What is your middle name?

Rebecca (which explains the name of my business)

[2] What color is your mailbox?

charcoal

[3] Are you available?

Nope

[4] Have you ever hit a deer?

No, but there was this one that kept mouthing off…

[5] Do you have to drive over a bridge to get home?

No, but I do drive over train tracks

(I don’t know where 6-15 went)

[16] Are you taller than your mom?

Until last year, I was the tallest female in the whole family!

[17] What curse word do you say the most when your mad?

It varies

(or 18)

[19] What do you do to get over a broken heart?

I don’t know.  I’ve never had mine broken (because I am cruel and heartless)

[20] Do you enjoy writing in colored pens?

yes

21] Does anything hurt on your body right now?

not really

[22]Do you often cry during a movie?

Only if it’s really stupid

[23] Last text message you received?

I don’t know.  I don’t read them b/c my phone isn’t actually supposed to be receiving them.  I need to talk to Verizon about that.

[24] Who sent it?

Probably Sara or Aaron b/c they’re bitches that way.  😉

[25] Do you hate your life?

No

[26] Do you get mad easily?

Not like I used to

(27 too?!)

[28] What is your biggest pet peeve?

Using “She and I” incorrectly

[29] Are you cold?

A bit chilly, yes.

[30] Do any of your friends have kids?

Yep

[31] Do you know anyone who is pregnant right now?

I did know 2, but one of them had her baby already.

[32] Who should pay on the first date?

Depends on who asked who out.

[33] How many years older than you are you willing to date?

I don’t know.  I tended to date younger, but now it doesn’t really matter, now does it.

[34] Do you have any friends?

According to myspace, I have 100

[35] Do you have any mean friends?

Yes, and you know who you are.  😉

[36]What is the ugliest color in your opinion?

Puce, although I think I just dislike the name

[37] Have you ever liked someone who all your friends couldn’t stand?

Yes, and dated, several of them.

[38] Have you ever felt like driving off a cliff, seriously?

Uh, no.  Do you know what that would do to my car insurance?!

(well, I should have expected this out of 39)

[40] Do you scratch your ears?

When they itch

[41] Who was the last person to hug you?

Nate

[42] What brand are the pant/jeans you’re wearing right now?

I <3 U

[43] How tall are you?

5’4.5″ (and I will fight you for that 1/2 inch!)

[44] What is the closest green object?

my entire outfit is pretty green

[45] What is on your feet?

skin

[46] If you were born the opposite sex, what would your parents have named you?

John, I think.  Which is odd b/c they picked “Claire” because they knew no other Claires.  Why would you have a unique girl name and the most common guy name as your choices?  My folks are weird!

[47] If you could go back to any time period when would it be?

I don’t know.  This one is kind of nice.  Perhaps the 60s or 70s?

[48] Do you want to have kids?

eventually

[49] What is the brightest color you’re wearing?

brown

[50] Who is the friend you have that you thought you wouldn’t

have?

If you’d asked high school Claire, she would have scoffed at your insistance that she would be married to Nathan Presnall in 10 years.  Seriously, he wasn’t talking to me then.

[51] Who do you hate the most right now?

Hate is too much effort.

[52] Whats your mother’s middle name?

Marie

[53] What kind of car do you want?

One with a lower bumper.  My camera gear is heavy!

[54] What is your favorite video game?

Guitar Hero II (although I’m enjoying Final Fantasy 12 and Zelda as well)

[55] Do you like your dad?

He’s awesome

(ok, whoever made this thing up really needs to learn how to count)

[57] Are you wearing make up?

Yes

[58] Do you have a tattoo?

no

[59] Have you ever broken a pinata?

I believe so.  I think it was at my birthday one year.

[60] What time is it right now?

6.02 pm

[61] Do you know how to draw?

Yes.  I had to take several classes in it.

62] Who loves orange soda?

I do, I do!

[63] Who is your hero?

Jon Stewart

[64] Who did you last IM?

Aaron?

[65] Do you work a lot of hours?

I work enough

[66] Where were you 24 hours ago?

on my way home from a meeting

[67] Who was the last person that called you?

Nathan

[68] Is there anything you regret?

Not taking a packed course load my jr. year and 1st half of my senior year in college.  Someone convinced me that the major classes would be too all encompassing.  Sadly, all I had was my major and it was hellish.  Things got better when I added more classes.

[69] Do you know where your family name originated from?

Tillery is some sort of farmer.  Presnall has some sort of priest hall kind of thing, I’m not sure.  I think they’re both English.

[70] Animal that creeps you out?

Snakes.  THEY HAVE NO LEGS!!

Club LeConte

So I should have posted this blog a while ago, but life isn’t always so cooperative.  I recently had lunch and a tour at Club LeConte downtown.  I met Lindsay and Alyson a few weeks before at a networking event and they offered to show me around their club some time.  Alyson and I had a delicious lunch.  I had New Englad Clam Chowder (one of my favorite foods ever), a Thai Beef Salad, Raspberry Lemonade, and Key Lime Pie for dessert.  I could barely walk the tour after lunch, it was all so good!  I love Clam Chowder, and theirs had this great spice to it that made me want to order another bowl.  The beef was tender and perfectly cooked, and the salad dressing had that sweet and spicy flavor I love about Thai food.  The pie was the real killer.  It came with 2 slices, and I nearly finished both of them.  It was fantastic!

The club itself is beautiful.  They have space for a small intimate dinner (Alyson was telling me about a proposal they had recently) or a huge wedding.  It reminds me of some of the clubs in Atlanta, only their view is of the river rather than a bunch of sky scrapers.  You can see practically forever up there.  It was daytime during my visit, but I bet the lights and the stars are great at night.

One of my favorite parts is the huge staircase with mirrors down the side and a large chandelier above it.  It would be a perfect place to photograph a bride alone or a huge group.  Depending on the size of the wedding, you could get most or all of the guests lined up for a single shot.

Everyone is super nice over there.  Here’s their website if you’re curious: http://www.clubleconte.com  I’ll have to find out when they serve clam chowder and see if I can get another bowl.  🙂

In-Law update

So, my mother-in-law called either last night or this morning to rescind her request for an additional line on our cell service.  That was without our mentioning to her what a ridiculous request we thought it was.  They are planning on getting a Cricket phone instead.

Nate wanted to make sure everyone knows his mom is not completely insane all the time.

I couldn’t delete this one

Current mood:  apathetic

So somehow my last blog was posted twice.  I’ve spent the last 15 minutes trying to delete it to no avail.  I keep getting an error message and the notice that this error has been forwarded to the myspace folks.  Well, that’s nice, I suppose.  I hope that problem doesn’t leap ahead of my inability to send out messages.

Anyway, since I couldn’t remove it, I’m “editing” it into this blog.  I really don’t have anything to say, but I have the space, and I can’t remove it.

My voice

Current mood:  bored

So I just recorded all of the outgoing message stuff for the folks Nate does a lot of work with (Tantrum).  It was fun.  I used to temp as a receptionist, so I just used my phone answering voice and they liked it.  I was thinking of getting into some voice-over work, but I’m really not certain where to start.  I’ve had people tell me I have the voice for it (I used to do a lot of calling people for APA and some other folks, so I can definitely do the professional receptionist voice).  Anyway, it’s just another thing to do when I’m not doing photography stuff.

On to other things.  Nate’s birthday was Monday.  I made a fabulous dinner (Nate helped) of filet mignon, scallops, skillet corn, and mashed potatoes and baked the yearly angel food cake (well, I make them more than once a year, but I always make one for Nate’s birthday).  We were both stuffed!  It was great, though, because we cleared out the dining area and could set up a “table” (meaning put 2 tv trays together and sit in lawn chairs.  We really need to get some furniture, but we don’t want to fill up the house with nice stuff we have to protect and move around until after most of the construction is done).  It was nice to eat like civilized people rather than in front of the tv.

Right now I’m waiting for lunch time.  I called some friends (Kate and Devon) to see if they wanted to have lunch today or tomorrow, but no one is home.  Maybe they’ll be available tomorrow.  I didn’t really give them much forewarning.  I hope they can meet me tomorrow.  I think they should meet each other too.  Kate is new to Knoxville (sort of) and Devon and I have been friends for forever.  They’re both super cool, and I think they’d like each other.

Speaking of lunch, I’m meeting a new coordinator in town on Monday (I think.  We’re still in the planning stages)  I’m excited.  I got my new business cards yesterday, and I can’t wait to pass them out.  I also need to get my printer set back up (we took 2 printers down to Atlanta for that shoot, and I mixed up which was the one that had been on my computer already.  Now we’re having some communication issues, so I got my 2nd printer back from Nate and will be sending the other one with him back to work.  It’s way overly complex for a stupid printer.  I have another one attached to my computer already.  It prints cds but not borderless prints.  So I need 2 printers b/c they haven’t figured out how to do both things in one.  It’s lame)

Anyway, I’m getting hungry.  It’s nearing lunch time.  Nate is in the other room working on an edit job, and I’m supposed to be making invoices only I don’t know the amounts or the jobs.  Instead, I suppose I’ll just play here on myspace.  Fun!

More computer woes

More computer woes
Current mood:  annoyed

So we all know that my Rebecca Claire webpage can’t send outgoing messages and hasn’t been able to do this since the end of January.  Well, I’ve been trying my best to get this fixed and continue to get the exact same response from “customer service.”  I give up on technology.  I’m still on hold with the Gateway people (new number.  I think it’ll be the same problem b/c it took me back to the exact same menu.  I’m tired of listening to “Jennifer” the prerecorded lady.  She’s now telling me to restart.  Bleh.

Anyway, here’s my latest communication with the auto responder at myspace tech support.

I cannot send messages.  It doesn’t matter if I am replying to a message I received, or choosing “message me” on a friend’s profile.  I type the message, hit send, and it gives me a choice to return to message, inbox, or profile.  I check the sent folder, my sent message isn’t there.  It isn’t making it to the intended recipient either.  They’re just going away.  I have already received the response below.  It did not help.  I have already tried that.  I’ve been sending messages successfully in that manner since I opened the account.  It stopped sending out messages around the end of January.  Please fix it.

Thanks!

I have received this reply 3-4 times.  It is still not helpful.  This a problem with my actual myspace page not my ability to find and use the message feature.

Hello,

In order to send a message you will need to click on the users profile you wish to send mail to, then below their photo is a box and the first option is send mail, click on that and a mail message box will pop up.

If this does not address your issue completely, please press “Reply” and provide any additional information you feel is relevant.

Thank you,

Still on hold

Still on hold
Current mood:  annoyed

So, Marcellio came on line and asked me about my problem.  I told him and he asked for the serial number of my computer.  Um, we built it.  Now he doesn’t know what to do since it’s the monitor not the computer that’s the problem and they didn’t build the computer.  I’m surprised he didn’t tell me to restart (which I’ve done several times)

He put me back on hold and the first song playing was “Help” by the Beatles.  Yes, I need help.  I’m now on to tech support.  Oh man, and now I’m back back on hold and the song is “Lean on Me.”  The lady is getting me a phone number and the first phrase that played when I went back on hold was “just call me.”  I’m cracking up.  I hope I have a problem that they’ll understand b/c right now they don’t.  This is dumb.  All I need is a driver.  Give me a link, and I’ll go download it and be happy.

Computers are stupid and evil.  They’re supposed to save time, but I swear between Nate’s problems with computers and periferals over that last 2 weeks and mine, we’ve spent more time running tech support and on hold than actually working.  He was supposed to have last week off but instead spent it trying to figure out why one computer completely died and another one wouldn’t talk to the new periferal so that he wouldn’t be running tech support this week when he had a big edit job.  Guess what he spent yesterday doing.  That’d be tech support.

Now, here’s the deal.  I’m not a huge fan of Macs.  I spent over a year in serious battle with what was supposed to be a super fancy G5.  It continually denied me the “Mac experience” (b/c Macs don’t crash, they simply grey out the screen and give you a nice little note suggesting that you turn off the computer at the power button.  It is in about 5 different languages and has the power icon imposed over it in case you don’t know which button to push.  It also says that it will sit right there and patiently wait for you to do that.  Not to worry, it won’t bother with doing anything else while it waits.)  Nate always gave me crap about that b/c he just hates computers in general.  So do I (I just hated one specific Mac more than all other computers.  Plus I find the Mac attitude distasteful.  It’s a “be different.  Just like everyone else” kind of thing, and I’ve never responded well to that kind of message.)  Anyway, I’m having PC troubles, Nate is having Mac troubles.  All computers are stupid and yucky.

Back to tech support.  Because I bought the monitor at Best Buy, I have to call another number.  They do not have drivers for this monitor on their website (which is dumb) and cannot help me any further.  Thanks Erika (that’s the techsupport lady).  She kept trying to make it all about the computer, but I think I freaked her out with my tech-speak.  I can talk like I know computers, especially when talking to someone who doesn’t, and I don’t think Erika really knows computers.

End of part 2 of the monitor saga.  If this new number doesn’t work, I’m shutting down the machine and waiting for Nate to bring home the driver disks he has at work.  I think one of those might be it.

ARG!

Current mood:  annoyed

So I stole Nate’s new monitor recently and it’s crashing my computer.  My usb ports are taking turns working which includes the ports on the side of the monitor.  I haven’t installed the drivers because I can’t find the disk (I can find all of the other paper work and the disks for Nate’s other monitors.  This is what I get for cleaning)

Anyway, I went to their website to download the drivers but couldn’t find this particular monitor.  Now I’m on hold with customer support.  This is dumb.  They’re playing really really awful country music while I’m on hold.  It’s something about country boys and girls getting down on the farm.  Bleh.

The voice recorded lady is talking to me like I’m dumb.  She’s saying things like “it’s good to be sitting in front of your computer and have a pen and paper ready to take notes.”  Do people call tech support from their cars?

Ok, we’re on to Bette Midler “Wind Beneath My Wings.”  I suppose that’s an improvement.  All I want to do is go to the bank, post office, Wal-Mart, and Kroger and then come home and clean.  I’m on my old keyboard too b/c the computer currently won’t start with a usb keyboard.  At least it doesn’t require a mouse b/c I don’t currently own one of those.

I can’t believe I’m using cell minutes on this.  I wish my crt didn’t weigh a ton.  I’d switch back in a heartbeat.  At least my computer was working then.  The only thing I’ve changed is it’s place in the room and the monitor.  I can’t print, I can’t read things from any of my periferals.  Bleh bleh bleh.
