Big Fatty’s

Current mood:  satisfied

So, I photographed Big Fatty’s and the owner Lisa for Eva Mag back in October. The article is out this month, and one picture has been taunting me. Which one? That’d be the big vat o’ banana pudding. See, after the shoot, I got to eat the shrimp po’ boy and the fried okra, but the banana pudding was what called my name. It has been haunting me for over a month!

This evening, Nathan, Larry, and I were trying to determine the dinner choice. I suggested Big Fatty’s (I’ve been trying to get there since the shoot) and it was a go. We almost couldn’t find it, but I had the number and called for directions. (They’re between Knox News, the adult bookstore, and a tire store on Kingston Pike, just east of Gormet’s Market, another great place to eat). Everything was fabulous. Just what the doctor ordered (no really, I’m sick and the best thing for sick is good southern cooking). I think we hurt ourselves, but we made room for the banana pudding. OH MY GOD! It was fabulous! I was afraid I’d built it up in my mind to be better than it really was. I hadn’t. It was even better than I’d imagined! It’s like banana custard. And it isn’t that boxed/powdered pudding. This is the read deal! Homemade from scratch pudding, real bananas, nilla wafers, and actual whipped cream. Did I say OH MY GOD! Even if you don’t like banana pudding, you should try it. It is that good.

So, Big Fatty’s on Kingston Pike. Just down the street from Panera and across the street from the fancy little strip shopping thing with the Wok-something restaurant. I want everyone to eat there so they become incredibly successful and never close. FABULOUS!

Yum! I love banana pudding. I read the article in the EVA mag and want to try eating there as well. Glad to hear it’s as good as it sounded.

google.com

Current mood:  annoyed

Since Halloween night, I haven’t been able to log into myspace.  I can’t access any of my 3 pages.  Why?  What seems to be the problem?  The “login” button appears to be a “go to google.com” button.  I’m not certain if it’s my computer hates myspace (It didn’t used to, but the old computer did and wouldn’t let me see any pictures) or myspace hates me.  I’m on Nathan’s dad’s computer in Cookeville right now, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to log on tomorrow when I return.  Apparently it wasn’t an all encompassing issue, though, since I see several people posted bulletins during the time in question.  It could be Nathan playing some joke on me and “my fix” (I swear I’m not on that much.  Look at how bad I am at updating everything).  Anyway, if you message me, and I don’t reply in a timely manner (like a day or two), e-mail me.  I’m busy at google.

I love knitting

Current mood:avoiding actual work

April taught me to knit when she and Kendra came to visit (and a fabulous visit it was and I should’ve blogged about it, but I’m lazy) Knitting is awesome. For anyone who enjoyed friendship bracelets, this fills that void (because honestly, what do you do with friendship bracelets when your 30? I don’t really have a gaggle of 13 year old friends to share them with at this point. Even my youngest cousins are too old). Now I can make socks (well, I can learn), scarves, sweaters, hats and all kinds of useful stuff. I know this makes me an old lady to some folks, but knitting is chic. Now I need a Stitch & Bitch group. Any Knoxville takers?

You crack me up with the whole friendships bracelets. I use to make tons of those and would work on the “fancy” designs and patterns. I filled the void by making Christmas ornaments. I have been making them for years and everyone needs chritmas ornaments! I should mail you some! ;o)

I’m so totally up for it, and a few of my girls have been looking for a knitting group.

Thirty: Fun & Flirty

In less than 2 months, I turn the big 3-0. It’s an exciting time, I know, and everyone wants in on the action. The plan is to go to some restaurant around Knoxville on my actual birthday (December 21st, it’s a Friday) and invite everyone to meet me there for dinner and drinks and general merriment. I haven’t picked the restaurant yet, so anyone familiar with Knoxville, I’m taking suggestions.

Depending on our holiday schedule, I may do the Spankies in Cookeville thing (seems like a requirement) that weekend/week whatever between my birthday and the new year. I also know there are several of us out there with 30s coming up around that time. I am totally down with sharing the spotlight if anyone wants to try and plan a joint thing. My only deal is, our house is a construction zone, so it sadly cannot be here.

OK, let the planning begin! And please make sure I have your e-mail address if you want me to include you on the e-mail invite list b/c I’m terrible about keeping up with e-mail addresses. I will be making announcements in blog form as well. YAY Party!

1st Anniversary

Current mood:  happy

We had our first anniversary this weekend and it was great! We took several days off and ate good food (plus awesome year-old cake. It was seriously delicious. I couldn’t believe it). I highly recommend an anniversary trip every year. You need to spend some time together and your house is just full of distractions (at least ours is). So go away and get your love on! 🙂

myspace music

Current mood:  annoyed

So, I know you all want to share your music with me, but I’m a bit annoyed (not with you, with myspace). I used to have this setting that said “don’t auto play music on other’s pages” which did just that. Apparently it’s been replaced by “don’t auto play music on my page.” Well, I have no music on my page and now every time I go to see what my peeps are up to, I have to scramble to hit the stop button before I get blasted with whatever cool song each person chose to illustrate their current mood or give a bit of insight into their personality. I don’t like having my music selection sprung on me. If I go to a website with auto play music, I immediately close the window.

I like that you can do music (although how this doesn’t violate copyright laws while photographers aren’t technically allowed to play the radio or music they own in their studios is beyond me), but I wish I got to choose whether or not I had to listen to it without scrambling to turn it off.

I have 1000 junk messages since Friday at 5 p.m. (ish)

Current mood:  frustrated

OK, I really only have around 200+, but I can’t delete them from Thunderbird (well, I can, but they come back) and I can’t delete them from webmail (when it lets me log in) because when I say “delete” it says “do nothing?”. For some reason, Thunderbird downloads them then sorts them into the junk folder (along with several non-junk messages that I have to go find). I retrieve the non-junk and send the rest to the trash can and then delete it. Well, then Thunderbird says “Hey! You have new messages!” and we do it all over again. I’ve given up, so now they just accumulate and I have 5 copies of every junk message I’ve received since Friday at 5 p.m. (when this issue began). It’s also reloading all of the non-junk (sometime it puts it back in junk, sometimes it just marks it as unread). It has remembered the messages I marked as important, but the ones I’ve read and replied to are marked as unread and unreplied. It’s driving me nuts! The reason I left my old web host was because of e-mail issues. The difference with the new one is that they are coming over tomorrow afternoon to actually look at my computer and figure out what’s wrong (especially since my claire@ and info@ are set up identically but only claire@ is having problems). I hate technology. It is mean.

Aluminum Free Deodorant

Current mood:  satisfied

OK, so aluminum has been linked to alzheimer’s so we cut out drinking soda from cans (although plastic is bad too apparently, and soda is bad, so we don’t really drink that anyway.  I never drank much soda, but Nate used to go through a case in a matter of days) and ditched all of the old aluminum cookware, but we still smeared aluminum laced anti-stink stick under our arms every day.  So a few days ago I was at Earthfare (which is this really awesome store in Turkey Creek.  If you live in Knoxville, or are just visiting, you should go).  I spent probably an hour in the non-food section picking out new face wash and soap and stuff, and found a whole section on aluminum free deodorant.  I bought the Alba brand (tea tree flavor, I think) and tried it out yesterday.  It’s awesome!  I had a shoot in the morning, computer work all afternoon, lots of time to and from the car in the nasty hot, but the real test was the business after hours.  It was outside!  Seriously, who has a business networking event outside in August?  Everyone was dying.  I foolishly wore 3/4 length sleeves and jeans and had my stupidly heavy purse and a big ass camera.  I was a giant puddle (though perhaps less so than the people in suits).  I figured I’d be a pit-stained stinky mess by the end of it.  Shockingly, I wasn’t.  I haven’t showered yet (we’re taking the day off and I just got up) and I still don’t smell at all!  It’s like magic.  And no aluminum.  So if you’re worried about losing it when you get old, I highly suggest you check out the “health food” section at the grocery store b/c they usually have this kind of thing there too.  So far it’s way better than the stuff I was using.  Of course, don’t let this imply that I usually smell bad.  As I tell Nathan, I always smell good, like petunias (although, I really have no clue what petunias smell like.  They could smell awful, but it sounds nice to say).

don’t worry- petunias smell nice. as long as he doesn’t say you FEEL like petunias….they are super sticky. i use the only non-aluminum brand they sell at one wallie world. i’ll have check out the rest of earthfare next time for more variety(i was too starry eyed over the vegan muffin section at the time)! sometimes i just forget to wear any anyway. i actaully have started to like a persons natural scent (as long as it’s not to over whelming, like perfume). i really believe alot of that pheromone crap (we are attracted to mates by their smell). i love smelling my man’s sweaty stink! ummm-ummm talk about revving up my engines!!!

I found my metronome

Current mood:  chipper

So sometime around 15 years ago, I lost my metronome.  I search everywhere (I thought).  Well, it turns out it was with Zedbe (who I also found today).  Apparently I had left them both at my grandmother’s house and when she packed up all of my toys (I don’t know what possessed her to do it.  We had lived in the basement with Dad after the divorce and would stay down there during the summer despite the lack of a/c.  The place was packed with toys.  It must have taken days!) she packed them up too.  Well, Devon came over and released my She-Ra collection from its rubbermaid prison and took the now freed action figures home to play with her 8-year-old who loves She-Ra (they really should re-release those toys).  After she left, I had a big pile of toys and 3 bins that I was confident I could stuff into 2.  So I sorted through all of the crap and put He-Man with the He-Man stuff and the Ninja Turtles together.  The Transformers are in a bag in the Micro Machines box along with the Matchbox Cars.  There are a few battered Thundercats stuffed in the box of random crap (which is topped off by He-Man, the Turtles, and Thundercats each sorted into a tidy little Kroger bag).  During the sorting, I found some real treasures.  There’s also a lot of crap.  I need this stuff to either go live with Adam, or if he can bear to part with them, to find new homes with loving people.  But what we’re dwelling on are the treasures.  I thought my metronome must be busted b/c there was residue on the back of the liquid crystal display, but I turned it on (it still works!  Seriously, it’s been at least a dozen years!) and after a bit of warm up, it’s perfect.  How exciting is that.  Plus Devon got some real treasures for herself, so it’s a win win win!  I did save the Smurf house for Nate.

Oh, and if you’re interested in any of this stuff, if Adam doesn’t want it, it’s up for grabs.

Memories
Light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another

MY COMPUTER IS DYING!

Current mood:  stressed

And by dying, I mean corrupting files at random.  Thank goodness I’m such a “back it up immediately” freak.  I’m still rebacking everything up.  Didn’t plan on spending the day burning disks.  BLEH!
